In statements made public for the first time, more than 100,000 master recordings owned by Universal Music Group were lost in a 2008 fire on the Universal Studios backlot, including works by Elton John, the Eagles, the Police, Guns N’ Roses, Nirvana and Tom Petty.
The new information comes courtesy of The New York Times Magazine, which cites internal company documents and interviews with UMG employees among their sources. One document, used in a 2009 company meeting, declares that “lost in the fire was, undoubtedly, a huge musical heritage.”
Thomas Rhett scored his second No. 1 album on the Billboard 200 as Center Point Road debuted at the top of the charts. Center Point Road was released on May 31 and marks the first country album to hit No. 1 on the all-genre Billboard 200 chart in 2019.
Center Point Road is the first country album to reach No. 1 on the Billboard 200 in 2019, and the first since Kane Brown’s Experiment opened atop the list dated Nov. 24, 2018. Center Point Road follows Rhett’s last album, and first Billboard 200 topper, Life Changes.
Center Point Road was led by the single “Look What God Gave Her,” which has so far peaked at No. 4 on the Hot Country Songs chart, and at No. 6 on Country Airplay.
Steven Spielberg is developing a new horror series for mobile-focused streaming service Quibi — “Quick Bites” for short — that viewers will only be able to watch when it’s dark outside.
Quibi founder Jeffrey Katzenberg said at the Banff World Media Festival in Canada: “Steven Spielberg came in, and said, ‘I have a super scary story I want to do. He’s writing it himself. He hasn’t [written anything in a while] so getting him to write something is fantastic.” According to Katzenberg, Spielberg has “written five or six episodes” already with a possible 10-12 episodes in total. The working title is “Spielberg’s After Dark.”
Spielberg also requested the show only be viewed after midnight, so Quibi engineers came up with a plan. A clock will appear on viewers phones, tracking the sun set. The clock also tracks when the sun comes back up, during that time the show will be unavailable until it is once again after midnight.

A panel of 11 judges from the 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals agreed on June 10 to hear Led Zeppelin’s appeal in a copyright lawsuit alleging the group stole its 1971 rock epic “Stairway to Heaven” from an obscure 1960s instrumental.
In a 2016 trial that included testimony from Led Zeppelin guitarist Jimmy Page and singer Robert Plant, a jury found that “Stairway to Heaven” did not significantly resemble the song “Taurus,” written by the late Randy Wolfe and performed by his band Spirit. Page said he wrote the music for the song and Plant the lyrics, and that both were original.
However in September, a three-judge panel from the 9th Circuit ruled that the judge at the trial had failed to advise the jury properly, and ordered a new trial. Led Zeppelin’s lawyers moved to the next level of appeal, asking for the larger group of judges to rehear the case, and the request was granted. The 11-judge panel will hear the case in late September in San Francisco.

“To the uninitiated, it probably sounded like dogs barking. But to me, knowing the pure joy that comes with owning a rescue dog – or eight – it was music to my ears,” Miranda Lambert said in a press release.
Eight months after tying the knot with Brad Falchuk, Gwyneth Paltrow has revealed that she and her new husband don’t live together full time.
In a new interview Paltrow opened up about her and Falchuk’s living situation. Paltrow says that Falchuk sleeps at his nearby home when his children from a previous relationship, Brody and Isabella, are staying over — and on the other four nights of the week, he stays with Paltrow. “All my married friends say that the way we live sounds ideal and we shouldn’t change a thing,” Paltrow, 46, said.
During the interview, Paltrow also discussed whether she thinks she’s a good stepmom to Brody and Isabella, saying “I have no idea.” Paltrow also has two teenage children, Apple and Moses, from her previous marriage to Coldplay frontman Chris Martin. “Sometimes that piece gets complicated when there are two teenage girls. If you’re not all drinking the same Kool-Aid, it can be tough. I do think, though, at the end of the day, everyone wants the same thing, which is to feel love and be accepted.”
Paltrow and Fulchuk has a unique blended family, and ex-husband Martin joined the couple on their “very modern” family honeymoon over Christmas. The actress also approves highly of Martin’s new girlfriend, Dakota Johnson, even posing with Johnson back in April.
